I am confused as to how to purchase the software.  I am running the demo of V4.5 downloaded from the Datagraph web site.  If I select “buy” within the program, I am transferred to a page where I can purchase directly (?) but am also told to download from the App Store, and the word “beta” is used.  Is 4.5 a “beta” (i.e., still in development)?   What happens if I simply buy within the demo as opposed to the App Store?  Is one of these approaches preferred and, if so, why?

You can purchase direct from our web site OR from the App Store.

If there is a chance that you  would want multiple licenses in the future, for a research group for example, I would recommend you purchase through us directly. Otherwise as an individual user it’s really your preference as to whether or not you want Apple to manage the license.

If you buy direct from us, we use Fastspring as our online reseller and you will download updates direct from us.   We handle the license registration and can deal with any license issues.  You will also be automatically registered to use our beta version. The beta version is more developed than when people sometimes referred to a ‘beta’. It contains all the latest updates and bug fixes and becomes the next release version.  The commands in the beta that are still under development are indicated on our website, like the scaler field for example.

If you buy through Apple then they have the license tied to your Apple ID.  You will download all updates directly from Apple. We don’t get any information about the purchaser. If you’re interested in using our beta version then you have to do a separate registration process so that you’re in our system.

As a trial user, you can use either the release version or the beta version that you can download from our website.

I can certainly see how the download from the App Store button on our website could be confusing. You only download from Apple if you’re actually purchasing through Apple. We will try to make this clearer.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion!

Thanks for the clarification.  Please advise me on the best way to proceed.  I am running the demo on my work computer and it (along with this forum registration) is tied to my work email.  I want to purchase a perpetual license for use on my private machine, which would also permit me to register the software on my work machine as well, correct? (up to three email addresses)  Because I may (will……) stop working at some point, I suspect my primary registration address should be my private address.  So I would purchase from your site on my private machine, establish my private account, then what?  Uninstall the demo program from the work machine and reinstall using the private acct registration info at startup?  Or is there a way to convert the demo to an active without purchasing through it?  This is important if I may lose access to files I created while using the demo version.  Sorry for all the hand-holding………………

First, any files you create in trial mode turn to read-only, after the trial ends, but no files are deleted.  If you purchase a license after the trial ends, you just need to relaunch DataGraph and it will pick up your license IF you use the same email when you purchase, as you did to register your trial (demo).

Here are the steps that I would recommend …

1 – Purchase on your private computer through our web site

2 – Download and register on your home computer (submit your email and get the code for that computer)

3 – On your work computer, go into the account information and click the Unregister button.

4 – You will immediately get a window asking you to register, and your files will show as read only ( but not deleted).

5 – Enter you personal email.

6 – That will send a code to register your work computer – sent to your personal email.

You can register three computers, for your own use (not to share with others 🙂  but each one is registered with the same email.   Basically your license is tied to one email.  Hope that works for you!

Yes, the “purchase options” are very unclear. I thought I was downloading the free 30 day trial version of DataGraph, but it looks like I’m being charged the $89.99. There is no where to contact DataGraph directly, just these forums.

And, it looks like, based on the tutorial, that this program is NOT going to be able to do what I need it to do, not enough controls for x/y labeling flexibility, not enough control for tick marks/no tick marks and other specific graphic design elements, importing data from excel with formatting, etc. – so, how do I uninstall and get my money back??

To get a trial, you have to have registered through our website. https://www.visualdatatools.com/DataGraph/Trial/

To confirm the status of your account or request a refund, email us directly help’at’visualdatatools.com.  This option is also under the Help menu in DataGraph.

                Helpmenu

FYI – The program has a lot of flexility to control the design elements you mentioned.  For example, control the tick mark design in DataGraph (tic marks, no tick marks … ) by hiding the default axis settings (Unchecking “Draw x or y” on the Axis settings) and add an Extra Axis command (Select Command > Add Extra Axis).

The Extra Axis command can be used to show multiple axes with varying scales or you can  customize the menu under the Drawing Style menu.
