      Hello,

I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I just have a setting set incorrectly. I have noticed that DataGraph (I’m on 5.1.1) does a poor job of rendering data that is very noisy when using thicker lines for the plot. Here is a minimal example using the default DataGraph settings except that I’ve widened the y axis a little and increased the line width of the plot to 1 pt.

The top plot is what comes natively out of DataGraph. The bottom plot is exactly the same, except that I’ve edited the line in Affinity Designer by changing the way segments of the line are joined from “miter” to “round”. Basically this is just changing the way two line segments intersect from being pointy to smooth.

I’ve been tweaking my plots like this for years because the native DataGraph rendering gives the impression that the data is noisier than it actually is. Is there a way of taking care of this in the program itself?

      Thanks!

        Hi Scott,

Try changing the Line Join option from the default ‘Miter’ to ‘Bevel’ or ‘Round’.

        Join

You learn more about this option on the Plot command help page.

That should do a better job of rendering noisy data.  Let us know if that helps.

That is perfect. Thanks! I cannot believe I never noticed that before.
