I am trying to Link a file to DataGraph 5.2 using you video as a guide. When I set the path/file nothing shows up in the in the area where the column names should be

Selecting the gear menu, both “Create” options are greyed.

        Hi,

I have tried with DG 5.3 using the same csv file on my laptop, with .csv and .txt suffix, and it works.

I have a daily usage of files downloaded from my laptop and/or the internet and, even with DG 5.2, it used to work well.

May be you have keyed in the path manually? Try using the file manager from the folder icon near to the path window (or paste a URL copied from the internet).

I am wondering why your path starts with “/Volumes”.

If the link file is not identified as data column formatted, it is normal that items from the gear menu “create” options remind greyed.

So for some reason, I think that the link you entered is corrupted.

        I hope it helps.

Malcom – Are you using DataGraph from the macApp store?  If so, you might be running into a sandbox issue.

It should work if you select the file using the folder icon, as shown above. That should give DataGraph access to the file.

Otherwise, you must permit for DataGraph to access the file. You can do this using DataGraph > Settings. There is a tab where you can specify what folders or files you want to give DataGraph access to reading. Again, this is only needed in the Mac app store version.

Since you are using a mounted drive, the permission might reset when you unmount/mount the drive.  We have not tested that.

Sorry, I don’t think this was explained in the demo. We will have to add this to our documentation.

In any case, let us know if either of these suggestions helps.

I am using DG, not from macApp store. I have tried linking multiple files, including .txt, .csv, etc., nothing displays columns. All my settings are as shown above. DG has full disk access. I should note I am using Ventura 13.6.3, if this makes a difference. Would reinstalling DG help? Is there some preference file that might be an issue?

Helps to know you’re using the version from our website. I don’t think reinstalling DG 5.2 would make a difference. I am curious if you could please try this with the beta version, which is DG 5.3.  Also, do you have the same issue for files that are saved on your main drive, rather than a separate volume?

Moving the test files to same folder as DG did not change the result. However, switching to 5.3beta did “fix” the problem. Data can be imported from separate volume.

How stable is 5.3beta? Do I dare use it instead of 5.2; I would hate to loose data/graphs.

PS. I do not seem to be getting any follow-ups via email.

Good to know 5.3beta fixed the issue.  This version has been stable for a while.  We are on the cusp of submitting this as our next release version.  Of course, we always recommend having backups 🙂 but we are not making any more changes to this version unless a bug is reported. Working through the system takes a little time but could be out as early as next week.
