      Hi,

I was wondering what is the best and easiest way to have extra padding on left side of the x-axis.  Basically, I don’t want my first data point to be on the y-axis, see screenshot below.

The available options for “Padding for x” menu change the padding on the right side of the axis.  Also, tried including negative numbers in the x-axis but that is not idea since my x-axis is time and it does not make sense to have negative numbers.

Here are a couple of ideas…

One would be to change the Box Style in the Style settings to ‘Offset access’. You can also set exactly how much of an offset.  The ‘Specified’ option is set up to scale with the point size to avoid the axis overlaying point. However, this does not draw the rest of the box.

Instead you could specify the tick mark locations.

In your data it looks like the x-locations are exactly where you would want the tick marks. Change the X tick marks setting to ‘Labels’ and then choose that column as your major tick marks and the same column would be used for the labels.

Also, continue to add a number less than zero for Include in x. Because zero is a special number, the default is to snap  to 0.  Including something slightly less than zero is enough to stop the default behavior of snapping to zero.

The graph above will only have major tick marks. If you also want the minor tick marks shown, Add an Extra Axis command and change the Drawing style is to ‘No labels’.

        Does that help?

            UPDATE:

Actually the easiest solution is to add a small negative number, far enough away from zero that the program will not snap to zero, and set the Padding to a fixed percentage.

I tested for a bunch of scaling options and this did not show any negative numbers for this case. Then you don’t need to set the labels.

Also, FYI – you can set the Axis position in the Axis settings from ‘Above’ to ‘Below’ to avoid the point being obscured by the axis line.  Wanted to point this out in case that was the reason that you wanted to move the point away from the axis.

            test
