      Greetings,

So I have CSV data that reports each time a uniquely identified user accesses a uniquely identified piece of content. My goal is to determine the content that is accessed the most (content my audience thinks is most relevant to them).

I can create a pivot chart that counts the number of times a piece of content is accessed, and then rank the top 10, for example, no problem. But this is counting total ‘touches’ – as in if one user accesses the same piece of content three times, that item will get a count of +3.

My question is: how can I create a graph where, in the above example, a piece of content is only counted once per unique user irrespective of how many times the user accesses it?

      Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you want to try using ‘Unique Count.’

Here is a data set to mimic what you described. If you counted the number of times each content was accessed, you would get three times for A and three times for B, but B was accessed by the same user three times. If you set the Value menu equal to ‘user’ and the Calculation as ‘Unique count,’ this returns that B was accessed once by one user.

        UniqueCount

Does this work for your data?

Wow, that easy?  Thank you. I remain in awe of DataGraph!

This totally makes sense, hard to see at first glance if it works with my data (18,000 rows), I’m seeing virtually no change. May mean the content isn’t being accessed multiple times by any one user… I need to dig a bit to see. As to whether this conclusion is a good thing or a bad thing, that’s a whole another thing!

          Thank you!
