Is there any chance to add simple 3d plot like Origin/SciDAVis does? Too much 2d plots in manuscript  to make editor crazy, wondering if can make a group in 1 3d plot…orz

We are not planning to add faux 3D graphs, like 3D bar graphs.  These graphs can be misleading because it can be difficult to compare the bar heights and bars can be hidden by other bars.   Stacked bars are sometimes a better options or use a split axis.

Though not strictly 3-D, the Scalar field command allows you to represent a third dimension (e.g., a surface plot). We have been developing this command for a while and it does some pretty interesting plots.  We would be happy to have users test it out before we add it to the release.

We just added some examples here: Scalar field

If there is something else you have in mind, feel free to send a screen shot of what you would like to see.

I mean a simple 3D like stack of the 2D plots maybe the Z axis is different time or different parameter of experiment like this:

I’ve done 3D plots in DataTank and ImageTank, even though it doesn’t cover this type of a dataset because the x and y axis don’t have the same units.

The problem with this graph is that a static image really doesn’t show a lot of the information.  More than half of the information is hidden because of obstruction or because it is on the opposite side.  For example, is there noise between the spikes just like there is to the right of the last one.

If you color code by height and look from above you will see everything, even though it is hard to see the relative heights.  The scalar field will allow you to do that, and we can certainly show you how to do that if you send us a sample file (help@vis…)

I’m facing the same problem again,

any idea to make plots like these with data group of (X Y Data)?
