      Hi,

I created a pie from one column. I have a second column used for labels which are displayed together with %. That works nicely.

I want to use a third column to color code the slices of my pie. This works fine but I am stuck now how to create a useful legend for the color code. A color ramp legend would also be nice but I don’t want to create a custom color ramp with transferring all color information by hand. Is there a way to create a color ramp from an already existing color scheme? This would be very nice.

If not, is there a way to create a legend showing colors with values for the scheme I have used? Using the default legend command gives me strange colors, I don’t think I actually used in my graphic.Screen Shot 2022-04-03 at 14.30.53

To show a custom color scheme in a legend for the Pie command, use a Custom Legend command instead of the standard legend.

        commands

Once you add, click the variable button and select your color scheme.

Hope that helps! Sorry did not respond sooner.

Thank you very much. This helps a lot.

What about a color ramp legend? I can only reference a color ramp from my global variables to draw a color ramp legend. Is is possible to automatically create a color ramp based on my color scheme so that I can easily have a color ramp legend?

If you mean you want the same color scheme that’s in your discrete color scheme to be in a color ramp, you would have to create that color ramp yourself. But that’s not hard to do.

Add the Color ramp and then use the first and last tiles from your color scheme.

As shown below you can click and drag the color tiles from one location to another.

            ramp

Once this is set up you can change the selection within your command to use the ramp to color your data. And then add the color ramp legend command to show on the graph.

Is that what you wanted to do?

Thank you again for the help.

It is somehow what I was looking for. But actually it is not ideal, I think. The color scheme was created by selecting “blues” from color suggestion. creating the color ramp with the method you suggested results in less nuances of blue that are harder to keep apart. Using this color ramp for my pie graph also makes the single slides harder to differentiate. If I would select a rainbow color suggestion, the method of selecting the first and last color would also not work out to create a color ramp identical to the color scheme.

I had several situations so far where I created a color scheme from the suggestions and wanted to have a color ramp legend for this. But so far I guess the only way is to manually transfer the colors from the scheme to the ramp. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an automatic command to transfer colors between schemes and ramps?

I think I see what you mean.  To really mimic the discrete colors in the scheme we would need the same number levels in the ramp. More like this….

                rampm

If we had a gear menu shortcut on the Color scheme to create a corresponding Color ramp like the one above, would that be a solution for you?   Seems like this could make it much easier to create new color ramps.

Yes, this is exactly what I was thinking of!
