After trying to paste what turned out to be a very large variable into a new DG file and seeing the spinning multi-color pizza for a few minutes, I force-quite DG. Since then I cannot open the program–nothing but spinning pizza. I have restarted the computer and reinstalled the software (5.4 on a Mac running OS 15.1.1), and the problem persists. After first force-quit it reopened the several windows that I had open; I was able to close them over the course of several minutes. But I still can’t use DG. What else do I need to delete to get use back?

After posting this I found com.visualdatatools.datagraph.plist and trashed it. Program opens now.

Thanks for reporting the problem and the fix! That file is likely the location the system stores what files to relaunch on open.

Also, we are always interested in knowing what data may have caused the problem.  If you can provide details or email a copy to our help email we can diagnose what caused the issue.  If the data is quite large, you may want to  try the Import Special method, which is threaded and very efficient at importing large datasets.

FYI – For anyone with the same issue (AKA spinning wheel of death) we typically recommend  remove files …

          In ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.visualdatatools.datagraph.savedState

In ~/Library/Autosave Information – you will see any unsaved DataGraph files.

the system stores the application state that is tries to restore upon launch.  The Mac App store version doesn’t have access to those locations, so what the system does is to create a Container for the application and stores that in

          ~/Library/Containers/com.visualdatatools.datagraph/Data
