using a slider to control a mask

The online documentation says sliders can be used to control masks, but I can’t figure out how to do this. There’s no icon next to the mask allowing me to add a token for my slider.

Type the name of the slider into the mask field to use it as a variable in an expression  (you do not need a token from a menu).  Like you would when using a variable in an expression within a function column command.
